A21 The Walk For Freedom

On the back of Anti-Slavery day tens of thousands of us showed up to declare that modern-day slavery must be eradicated through a Walk For Freedom in our local cities. The city of London saw A21’s global fundraising and awareness event showing the general public that we will not stand for modern day slavery.

As A21 is one of our main partners at Fabric For Freedom (see our Charity & Partners) we participated in this campaign – Local Walk, Global Impact #walkforfreedom.

Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world, generating more than £116.3 billion GBP. Slavery is the fastest growing organised crime in the world. It’s real, hidden in plain sight, and tearing at the social fabric of every nation and economic structure.

Millions of men and women across the world are victims of modern slavery. In hundreds of cities across the globe, we united to walk in support of changing this horrifying statistic. In the UK alone there are an estimated 13,000 victims of slavery and there are more slaves in the world today than at any point in history. With only 1% of victims ever being rescued and only 1 in 100,000 EU traffickers getting convicted makes Human trafficking a global reality that impacts every continent. As an organization, A21’s goal is to abolish slavery everywhere, forever.

Many people think that slavery was abolished 200 years ago when it is estimated that there are more slaves worldwide today. 2 million children are trafficked across international borders and with 45% of victims trafficked into forced labour, brands need to take more action to eradicate it from their supply chains.

A21 UK office works in three main areas to help tackle the issue of human trafficking across the UK. They prevent trafficking through education and training programmes, protect victims through safe projects and fundraises to help the work of A21 globally.

A21’s strategy is to reach the vulnerable and disrupt the demand, rescue victims and seek justice against their captors and restore survivors equipping them to live independently. If you want to find out more about how you can get involved and help, follow this link
